What is the average weight of a sleeping bag

For a three season hike like the AT, I'd recommend a weight range of 2 to 3 pounds for a 20F three season bag, and 1 to 2 pounds for a summer bag as a luxury. These are relatively expensive down bags at the bottom of the weight ranges. Decent but slightly heavier bags can be had for less money.

The summer bag is not necessary, especially if you can use a quilt. The rating and quality of the three season bag depends on when you start, which is seems to be from late Feb to late April. I run under 3 lbs. However the question should be about space, Mainly cause I like to eat. I stopped using a zippered sleeping bag several years ago. If it do'nt eat you or kill you it makes you stronger 'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.

Never buy shoes for your wife or a sleeping bag to give as a gift. There are as many opinions as to the right bag as opinions as to which is the most conservative Republican candidate.

A mummy bag can be restrictive compared to other shapes. Rectangular —as the name implies, this is a non-tapered design, which is less efficient at heating, but also less restrictive while sleeping. Warm weather car campers often opt for a rectangular shaped sleeping bag due to the freedom of movement they provide. If comfort, not warmth, is your main priority, consider this style of bag.

Semi-Rectangular —a hybrid between the mummy and rectangular shape, this is the go-between for fair-weather campers that require warmth, but also desire the extra room for added comfort.

While not as warm as mummy bags that can withstand 3 to 4 season camping, a semi-rectangular bag can work for fair-weather trips, and also be efficient enough for shorter backpacking adventures.

Our sleeping bags fit is carefully crafted to fit the needs of your adventure. Our ultralight fit is even further tapered for those counting every single ounce. Like a jacket, the best way to get the right fit is to try them on if you can.

For 3-season camping, you should purchase a bag rated for 20 degrees. In warmer weather you can save some weight by choosing a quilt over a sleeping bag. Problem is lightweight bags are almost always expensive. Here are a few of my favorite lightweight bags at various price ranges. By dropping the weight of your 3 heaviest items you can significantly lower the weight of your pack.

So how much should your sleeping bag weigh? An acceptable sleeping bag weight is one that will keep you warm for those conditions. So you have to first consider your conditions. A degree sleeping bag will obviously be lighter than a subzero sleeping bag.
