When do middle schoolers get schedules

Having an earlier music lesson or tutoring session? You can ask your child for input, but make sure the routine you end up with is clear. You may want to work together to color-code by subject. For example, use a blue notebook and a blue book cover for science, a green notebook and book cover for social studies, etc.

That way your child can easily grab whatever is needed for each class without spending time looking for it. Adjusting to new routines is a process. Tell your child that everyone will understand if it takes a little while to figure out how to manage it all. That includes teachers, school administrators, and you. One of the most exciting moments that a new middle schooler experiences is when he or she gets her middle school schedule for the first time. Your student will likely sign up for classes before he leaves elementary school.

This school has three lunch periods of 30 minutes each built into their 5th period. They also have an Advisory Period built-in once a week on Wednesdays where students spend time with the same teacher and group of students, with most of their day otherwise spent in asynchronous learning.

In this example of another virtual schedule from another California-based school, they have a single Flex Period, called Tutorial Period, in their schedule. They chose to put it at the end of the day as the only class that happens after their minute lunch period, where it is followed by independent work time to end the day.

The exception to this is on Mondays, where students do not have a Tutorial Period or independent work time, and instead of attending half their traditional classes for longer periods on alternate days, they have all six of their traditional classes for shorter periods and get out early.
