Can i delete templog ldf

I wanted to delete the ones which havent been used in years according to the modified date, but i'm afraid this might cause problems. Looking online i can only find people responding with "why", not "Yes" or "No". Can someone giev me a definitive answer?

The transaction log is used by the database to hold data for faster processing but it should all then be written back to the DB. I would make sure that the file has been truncated to reduce the size before doing anything else. As for space issues, there is a better option; move the files. Afterwards, the main db files were on one drive, the translog on another, the tempdb on yet another.

This also improved performance. Are you not using the databases those ldf files belong to anymore? If you're running sql , the compression option on the backup job should make it very tiny compared to the live DB and trans log. That is a very long time to have logs building up! I assume you're saying that actual transaction logs are getting large, and not years worth of backups.
